Ian Cook from Popbang colour has a novel way to create his Artwork of iconic racing cars, he uses Radio Controlled Cars!
Auto drawing is a key development in Ian Cook’s most recent artwork. Cook best describes himself as predominately a ‘contemporary painter’ using colour to effectively create images. Ian gives the definition of ‘Popbang’ as a friendly explosion of colour.
Auto Drawings- radio controlled artwork started after he received a radio controlled car as an unexpected gift by a then girlfriend, he was then told “don’t take it down your studio, and don’t get paint on it!” Cook soon started applying paint using using the car wheels. The tyres created marks and lines; following various experiments and developments within his studio, it was clear that colourful abstracts and imagery could effectively be created.

Ian has had busy year in 2009, creating artwork at the Autosport and MPH shows along with Goodwood Festival of Speed and visits to the end of season F1 GP in Abu Dhabi. During RallyGB in Wales he as created artwork of Matthews Wilson’s Stobart Motorsport Ford Focus and at the MPH show the for Focus of Steve Perez.
In 2010 Ian will be based at the Heritage Motor Centre. Where he is planning artwork for the iconic Metro 6R4, which is part of the museums collection. And will be relunching the www.popbangcolour.com website in early January to include a shop where you can buy artwork and print from the artist and see the latest information.
