Rally Larvik 2008 Provisional Results: Mads Ostberg provisional winner as Andreas Mikkelsen is excluded for a tyre infringement after a protest but is appealing

Mads Ostberg declared provisional winner of Rally Larvik 2008:

Andreas Mikkelsen in his 07 Focus WRC was excluded from Rally Larvik today for a tyre infringement on SS4. Mikkelsen won the rally on the stages but allegedly cut grooves into his slick tyres before SS4 and was out of the service area which is forbidden. The Mikkelsen team are appealing the decision.

It had been another close tussle between Mikkelsen and Ostberg on this asphalt NRC round. Mikkelsen took the early advantage as the first couple of stages were dry and he was on slicks and everyone else was on intermediate tyres. Then the stages became wet and Ostberg took advantage leading until the final.

Action from SS6:

Ostberg lead by 2.7s going into SS8, the final stage, but he punctured losing nearly a minute during the 10km test. Mikkelsen too punctured but only with 2km left and didn't lose much time. It looked like the result was decided by punctures on the final stage again for a NRC event.

But then came Mikkelsen's exclusion and Ostberg was declared the provisional winner in his Subaru S12b. It is believed the Ostberg Adapta team protested the results. With Mikkelsen appealing it will be some weeks before the final result is declared, although one feels the provisional results will stand.

Rally Larvik 2008:

Bieltveldt won Group N to take 2nd o/a ahead of many people's tip for furure stardom Martin Stenshorne, both were driving Subaru's. Young rising Norwegian star Enyvid Brynildson took fourth o/a in his Group N Mitsubishi.

Guy Wilks was contesting the event in a John Haugland prepared Subaru Impreza which was running to a lower spec (Subaru Cup 2009 spec) than the regular Group N cars. He finished eighth o/a and 4th in Group N on the all tarmac rally.
