The confirmation that the Welsh Assembly Government has renewed its backing for Britain’s round of the World Rally Championship has allowed for plans to alter the rally significantly - in an effort to take it back to its halcyon days.

Plans are afoot to move the event further north in Wales and to add national and historic events on the back of the main WRC entry, ensuring an improved show for British rally fans.

Following a period of uncertainty about the event, the confirmation of WAG backing has cemented Britain as a round of the world championship - with a return to its November date for next year.

The event will remain in the Cardiff Bay, but chief executive Andrew Coe has admitted they will be looking for a bigger area to encompass all of the cars in one place. Coe admitted the future of Rally GB is looking bright.

“This event is going to be innovative and exciting, we’re looking at a variety of ways to make Rally GB the pace-setter in the World Rally Championship in coming years,” he said. “We want to look at a longer event, which goes further north, possibly with an overnight further north. We also want to develop our links with Cardiff Bay. It has been a real success running the event out of the Bay for the first time this year.

"Having a free service area where shoppers and people going out for the evening can mingle with the WRC and get their first taste of Rally GB has been very positive - and that’s something we’re keen to develop next year. We are very excited about the future of Rally GB and we already have a lot of positive plans for next year."

This news is absolutely fantastic! I hope it all comes true! I recon they should definitely use the Coed Y Brenin stage that hasn’t been used on the RAC for years! There is plenty of parking space for spectators near the new visitor center and across the road (A470) near the old center, both about half a mile apart by foot, using part of the Tarw mountain bike trail. One more must do, is have Sweet Lamb run twice, the latter stage being run in the dark as the atmosphere there the last time it was run in darkness in 1999 was just amazing!
