Bruno Magalhaes Rally do Maritimo 2009: Bruno Magalhães wins as expected

The sixth round of Madeira championship took place on Saturday with the Rally do Maritimo,  with some Portuguese drivers contesting the event in order to prepare for the forthcoming Rally Vinho da Madeira.

Bruno Magalhães was one of the participants from the mainland and led the rally from start to finish in the Peugeot 207 S2000.

Alexandre Camacho was the fastesd on one stage, trying not to make life too easy for the national champion, finishing in second position just 10,2s of Magalhães, having made good progress ahead of the Wine Madeira. Miguel Nunes found it difficult to keep up with the two Peugeots ahead of him, being 43,8s behind the winner, though he is now leading the Madeiran championship after securing third place which counted as second place in the national series.

Vitor Sá broke the transmission of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9 two stages from the end, when he was 4th overall. João Magalhães inherited the position of Sá, winning the production class and finishing 40s ahead of Rui Pinto in a similar Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9.

Filipe Freitas was involved in a great battle with Vitor Sá but lost more than 2 minutes on the seventh special stage with mechanical problems in his Clio S1600 and dropped to sixth position at the finish. Even so, he won the 2WD class, since Samir Sousa was thrown off the scent and John Silva retired with damage to his Clio R3.

In preparation for the Wine Madeira, Vitor Pascoal participated in a Peugeot 206 GTI, finishing in a creditable 12th place. Meanwhile, Pedro Meireles retired during the sixth special stage with the Subaru, when he was lying in 8th position.
