With just 22 years old Miguel Baldoni (Mitsubishi) claimed this weekend his maiden victory to become one of the youngster drivers ever to get success in the Argentine Rally Championship.
The VRS driver won his home event, Rally de San Luis, after beating his team-mate, the Paraguayan Diego Domínguez (Mitsubishi) by 7,0s. in a race where the big names and main title contenders have faded out.
Series leader Gabriel Pozzo (Subaru) was leading the race until SS2, however an early puncture drop him to 12th position and had to battle all weekend long to finish fifth. On the other hand, Federico Villagra (Mitsubishi) was second and securing his pace due to Pozzo’s troubles until a broken differential on Sunday’s first stage prevented him from taking the lead in the Championship. These situations enabled Alejandro Cancio (Mitsubishi) to come in third position.
“I’m really happy for this victory. We were looking for it all the year and we were really closer to get it in Tucuman two rounds ago. However it worth the wait since now I can celebrate with my family, friends and my people” stated Baldoni.
In the Championship Pozzo holds the lead with just three points over Villagra and with three rounds ahead.
