06.11.2009 In another great end of season, the Argentine Rally Championship is approaching to its climax, and only two drivers will go to the penultimate round in search of the title.
Tango RT driver Nicolás Madero and VRS driver Federico Villagra, both at the wheel of a Mitsubishi Evo X, will head for the southern city of San Carlos de Bariloche, for the 9th round, where Madero could be sealing his first Championship.
With two rounds to go, the native of Bariloche is enjoying a comfortable 16,5-point championship lead over his sole remaining challenger, and if he gets four points more than his rival, he will be achieving his ambition.
As for Villagra, the seventh time champion is urged to get the victory in order to arrive to the final round as closer as possible of Madero, and to play his final cards in the last and decisive round. However and at least Madero comes out with a tragic weekend, Villagra won’t get the upper hand.
A breathtaking landscape of mountains and lakes will be the natural scenery for this thrilling showdown, begining next Friday with the ceremonial start, which will open one of the most traditional rallies.
“The Lakes Corridor Rally” is an event worldwide known since Bariloche hosted the 1983 Rally of Argentina, where the Finnish driver Hannu Mikkola set the pace, to win the event driving an Audi quattro A2, over Stig Blomqvist and Michele Mounton.
With extreme cold and snow, this morning took place the shakedown in an area nearby Nahuel Huapi Lake where Mitsubishi Xs driver Alejandro Cancio set the pace over Villagra and Madero.
This edition will consist of a mix-surfaced event, however, unlike Rally de Tucumán, only the first loop early in the Saturday will be raced on asphalt, totalizing 28,70km among three stages out of the 15 schedule for the weekend where drivers must tackled 152,90km.
