Rally leader Gwyndaf Evans testing the Viking Motorsport Ford Escort RS at Sweet Lamb prior to the Roger Albert Clark
Footage from the first two days of this year's Roger Albert Clark Rally, on an event which sees Gwyndaf Evans and John Millington holding the overnight lead after Leg 2, in their Viking Motorsport (Phil Mills Co.) run Ford Escort RS1800.
Steve Bannister was the man who brought the fight to Evans with the pair only separated by a couple of seconds until Banner put his Escort RS1800 off on SS12 and dropped a couple of minutes, leaving him down in third overall. Jeremy Easson has moved up to second with his Mk1 Escort, following Bannister's woes, and lies just over a minute off the pace with still plenty of mileage left to make up the gap.
There was plenty of action from the word go and a few favourites are already out or in trouble. David Stokes and his Escort RS1600 retired after a roll on SS2 Langdale. Phil Collins also went off on stage 2, when he got the Ascona 400 stuck in a bog, and is lucky to still be in the rally albeit well down the field.
Steve Perez suffered gearbox problems from the start and he to is off the pace in the Stratos. Seamus O'Connell rolled his Escort Mk2 out on stage 6, while Marty McCormack's Mk2 was forced to retire with a reported engine problem on SS8.
