Day 3 action from the 2009 R.A.C Rally and Gwyndaf Evans continues to lead the event in his Viking Motorsport prepared Ford Escort Mk2.
It was another action packed day for the crews with plenty of rain in Kielder and some more big names falling by the wayside. The event lost Stig Blomqvist who rolled the Mk2 Escort out on Greystoke (SS21) and Richard Lepley too, retiring his Porsche 911 before the leg started with mechanical problems.
Also, Tony Thompson, who had been enjoying a great run, was forced to retire the exciting Chevette HSR on stage 21 when the head gasket blew.
But it is Evans who remains very much in control with one day left; holding a three minute advantage over Jeremy Easson's Mk1 Ford Escort before they head back into Kielder Forest again for the final leg. Paul Griffiths has now moved up to third place in his Escort RS1800, just ahead of Steve Bannister's similar car.
