Pure Sound
Stunningly beautiful footage (filmed through the lens of Piero Comanducci) of rallying, stretching over a 30 year time span from the mid-1970s to the late 1990s.
Comanducci's work covers everything from the Group 4, Group B and Group A paradigm shifts, to the dawning of the World Rally Car era.
These video clips are extremely rare and perfectly capture the pure sound of the cars in their natural habitat; the stages.
The visual and auditory experience encapsulates the sheer raw, anarchic, exhilaration that most people love about the sport, be it right or wrong. This assault on the senses can be likened to hearing The Stooges' Raw Power album for the first time.
French post-modernist philosopher Michel Foucault (one of the greatest thinkers of our time, along with Jacques Derrida) would have described such a phenomenon using his theory of “limit-experiences”, which push us to extremes where conventional categories of intelligibility begin to beak down.
