Petter Solberg has stated in an interview with wrc.com that he is in favour of the new S2000 WRCar that will be used in the world championship from 2011 onwards.
Solberg is currently recovering from a fever he picked up after returning home to Monaco from the Cyprus Rally (where he finished a magnificent 3rd o/a in his privately entered Citroen Xsara WRC) but he was able to talk to wrc.com from his sickbed.
Solberg's views on the new Super 2000 regulations for the 2011 WRC from the wrc.com interview:
The new Super 2000-based World Rally Car for 2011 was confirmed this week. What do you make of the changes?
"Personally I think we should be happy with it, work with it and then see. I'm in favour of anything which makes it easy for manufacturers to come in. First of all you have to get the most manufacturers together in one class, so you can start a proper championship. After that, when you have a good base, you can start developing things a bit further. Right now we need to adopt the class that will get most manufacturers."
Have you driven a Super 2000 car?
"No but I driven many, many other cars and I've talked to a lot of the guys who know what's going on. Okay, some people might say they're disappointed about the lack of grunt compared to a WRC car, but I say let's go and make a hell of show, have a good fight and compete with what we have. We can look at the rules again later on when we've got all the manufacturers together."
How exciting do you think the Super 2000 cars will be to drive?
"The excitement will be the competition; how far can we push the car, how far can we push ourselves, where is the limit? THAT will be the excitement. It will be a different type of driving, for sure. We've already seen that you have to go absolutely crazy to keep the speed up with less power!"
