It has been announced on Petter Solberg's website that he is free to drive with any other marque now in the World Rally Championship, after he and Subaru came to an agreement.
Petter is under contract with Subaru in Japan (who pay his wages) and it wasn't clear before this statement if he would be able to drive for other teams/cars in next season's WRC.
Today's (28.12.08) official statement on pettersolberg.com:
Petter Solberg and Subaru have agreed that Petter Solberg is free to enter any brand of the car he elects for participation in the WRC in 2009 and beyond.
Petter Solberg will use the nearest future to sort out the possibilities to re-enter the WRC for 2009.”

Solberg has of course decided that he will not be contesting Rally Ireland but here is a list of drivers that will, or who might, appear on the entry list.
EDIT: Petter has apparently been quoted by the Norwegian media (VG NETT) as saying that he will call both Citroen and Ford on Monday (28.12.09), to see if they have any available cars left. It also appears that he is prepared to pay for a seat.
Could Petter then look to get dispensation, like his brother Henning, for a late entry in Rally Ireland if he secures a drive before January 2nd?
The Rally Ireland entry list is expected to be published on Friday 9th January.
