Malcolm Wilson updated World Rally Radio this morning on Patrick's condition. He said that Patrick was showing a slight improvement but remained in a critical condition and the next 24hrs would be crucial. Wilson also added that another operation, which would be a third one, is to be carried out as there is still some internal bleeding.
Francois Duval’s co-driver Patrick Pivato was injured in an accident on Friday’s first day of Rally Japan. He was airlifted to Sapporo’s Higashi Tokushukai hospital yesterday afternoon after the Stobart car crashed sideways, at high speed, into a concrete barrier on SS6.
Pivato underwent two hours of surgery on Friday evening to repair a broken right tibia and fractured pelvis. During the operation internal bleeding was discovered and this required a further operation later in the night. The second operation concluded at 0100hrs this morning. He will now undergo a third operation today to further try and stop the internal bleeding.
