More detail has emerged from Motorsport news regarding the Opel Corsa S2000 project. The car will be rebadged in the UK as the Vauxhall Corsa S2000 and it has emerged that David Whitehead's MSD concern have been undertaking all of the development of the car. It actually was pushed by Whitehead to Russelheim in the first place and the car could break cover in less than six weeks time.
Whitehead commented about the project, " Opel have been supportive with information needed for the design and homologation. It is hoped the project will be assessed by senior Opel management later in the year."
The engine will be the same one used by the Vauxhall Vectra in the BTCC and the transmission will be the Xtrac one currently used by the MG. The car could be homologated on October 1st so will probably not compete this year.
It is not clear if the Opel project will interfere with the MG one which Motor Sports Developments also run.
