HUY – November 8 2009. The Silver Arrows Racing Mercedes 500 SLC driven by the brothers Bart & Frits Vanhaverbeke ended the Condroz Rally on the 6th place in the historic class. They took first place in the D4 category to which the car with its powerful 5L V8 engine belongs.

Driver Bart Vanhaverbeke was very excited: “We are very happy with our result. Yesterday the special stages were very slippery due to the rain and mud; we didn’t want to take too many risks and saved the car. Some of our competitors underestimated the road conditions and went off track. This forced them to abandon. Our car was in perfect condition and we experienced no technical problems. Today, the road was dry and the special stages were fast. This allowed us to go flat out and secure our position.”

The victory in the historic class went to the Opel Ascona A driven by the team Verschueren-Smets.

Bart Vanhaverbeke concludes: “We end our rally season with our best result ever. This certainly demonstrates the progress we have made thanks to the further evolution of the car. Our next race is the Legend Boucles de Spa on February 10th, 2010. We hope to be able to continue our progress.”
