RallyBuzz can exclusively reveal that Kris Meeke will compete at the Bettega Memorial Rallysprint on 13-14 December in a Citroen Xsara WRC from Italian outfit SCUDERIA ERREPI RACING S.R.L.
He will face some stiff competition as Gigi Galli is expected to make his return in a Focus WRC, while Chris Atkinson is scheduled to be there in a 2008 Subaru Impreza. Atkinson, though, may not make it if he is drafted into the Australian team for the Race of Champions to replace the injured Mark Webber.
Italian Felice Re will be in an official Citroen Sport C4 WRC, he drove a C4 recently on the Monza Rally. It isn't clear yet if Dani Sordo will be there as previously thought. Simone Campedelli will also be there in a Peugeot 307 WRC and there is a bit of speculation hinting that Marcus Gronholm might compete, though nothing official has been announced.
Kris Meeke commented on his website:
I am delighted with this opportunity. For many years it always been of interest to me, and I have even an old video of maybe the very first Bettega Memorial Sprint at home, to compete in this event is very special."
Meeke is no stranger to the Xsara as he tested one for Citroen Sport several times in the past. He impressed the team with his abilities in adapting to the car and the technical feedback he was able to give.
