Kris Meeke was sensationally fastest on the classic 31.26km Heuvelland stage to reduce the gap, to Ypres Rally leader Freddy Loix, down to just 0.2 seconds.
Peugeot UK driver Meeke has now set five fastest stage times during the event and was quickest on the previous stage as he begins to mount a serious challenge for overall victory. The Heuvelland stage is very well known by the top Belgian drivers and Meeke's time will be something of a psychological blow to his rivals.
Skoda's Jan Kopecky is 18.8s behind the Kronos pair despite a contretemps with a motorcycle on a road section before the stage. Giandomenico Basso is fourth in his Abarth, though is over a minute off the top three.
Meanwhile, Nicolas Vouilloz crashed his Kronos 207 out on SS8 after a pretty disastrous event for the Frenchman. Patrick Snijers continues to be experiencing a torrid time with the RGRS Polo after suffering power steering failure.
