Peugeot UK's Kris Meeke has been excluded from the results of the RACMSA Rally of Scotland, it has been announced in an official statement.

Meeke had won the event in his Peugeot 207 S2000 ahead of the Skoda UK-supported Fabia of Guy Wilks, but the car's front subframe was suspected of being underweight following post-event scrutineering.

The suspect part underwent further checks at a government Weights and Measures office and it was revealed to be below the minimum weight required, with the decision taken to exclude Meeke as a result.

“After due deliberation, the stewards noted that Peugeot UK and Peugeot Sport admitted a lack of control in the manufacture of this subframe,” a statement read. “The stewards also recognised that there was no fraudulent intent on the part of the entrant or manufacturer.

“The stewards decide to exclude competitor #1 from the event in accordance with article 158 of the 2009 FIA International Sporting Code owing to non-conformity with the relevant FIA homologation paper.”

It is understood that the Kronos-run team, who are this year's IRC champions, will not be appealing the decision despite previously stating they would.

I guess the IRC hired the same stewards who work in the WRC.

Exclusion? A bit harsh. A time penalty perhaps, as was given to Citroen with the anti-roll bar link would still be overkill, but at least in keeping with the WRC.
