It has been confirmed that former PWRC champion Niall McShea will tackle January's Rally Ireland in a Mellors Elliot Motorsport Proton Super 2000 through a hire deal with Donie O'Sullivan's S-Tec Motorsport (Irish partner with MEM), according to rally.ie.

McShea last competed on the Cork "20" Rally in September driving a Prodrive development Subaru Impreza N14 winning the Group N category and finishing 4th overall. More recently he sampled a RGRS VW Polo S2000 at a Rene Georges open day in Belgium.

McShea has been an open fan of the S2000 formula and nearly secured a deal to drive an RGRS Polo for the Donegal Rally this year. On Rally Ireland 2007 McShea scored an impressive PWRC victory driving a Subaru Impreza N12B.

Rally Ireland is the opening round of the 2009 World Rally Championship and takes place from the 29th January to the 1st February.
