Rising Finnish star Matti Rantanen will contest the 2009 British Rally Championship in an ex-Adam Gould Renault Clio Ragnotti, Motorsport News has revealed.
Rantanen finished a remarkable seventh overall on last year's Rally Finland in a Ramsport-run Ford Focus WRC 06. He will make his BRC debut on the Bulldog International Rally next week in the Clio which will be run by Richard Asquith's Autosport Technology team.
Richard Asquith explained to MN:
Finnish rallying is no different to British rallying in that there are a lot of talented lads without the money to get anywhere. Unless they get support from Timo Jouhki they don't go very far.
Matti went well on Rally Finland and has done well in a Mitsubishi Lancer in the Finnish championship, so he'll certainly be one to watch.
Rantanen was recommended to Asquith by Risto Laine and joins a long line of Finnish drivers to Asquith's squad that has included Mikko Hirvonen, Jari-Matti Latvala and Vesa Mikkola.
