Matovu struggles on Zambian rally debut
Ugandan rallying hero’s Emmanuel Katto and Moses Matovu struggled on the recent Zambian International Rally, Round 5 of the FIA African Rally Championship, when a series of minor problems hampered their early pace before the pair eventually slid off into a tree and were unable to continue!
Moses had never competed on the rally before but with his pilot, Katto, having been competitive every time he had been to Zambia, the pair had high hopes of a good run. However a damaged gearbox eventually left the Tommi Makinen Racing prepared Subaru Impreza N14 stuck in gear, resulting in the pair sliding off into the trees. Although neither Emmanuel nor Moses were injured their rally was over!
It is always frustrating to end a rally early, but that is just the nature of this game! Despite our problems Emmanuel and I were lying sixth overall before we crashed out, so it shows that we are on the pace, we just need a little help from Lady Luck!
Our championship is over but we’ll be back again next year for sure!
Although Emmanuel and Moses are now out of contention for the title they will head to Zimbabwe for the final round of the 2009 FIA African Rally Championship in early August but before then Moses will be back in action for the next round of the Kenyan National Championship.
