Video of the 1991 Manx International Rally in which Colin McRae (his 1992 BRC winning car is pictured above) would score one of his most significant early career victories.
The Manx would be his most accomplished drive of that season, where he comprehensively beat four-time winner Russell Brookes, who was in a Ford Sierra Sapphire RS Cosworth 4x4, and Prodrive team-mate and asphalt expert Francois Chatriot.
McRae set numerous stage records and won the event by 2 1/2 minutes from Chatriot, who had an accident on the first leg but wouldn't have beaten McRae anyhow. A depressed Brookes finished third, with him changing the set-up of the car throughout the rally in a vain effort to keep in touch with the Subarus.
Other notable competitors that year included; Patrick Snijers, Bertie Fisher, James Cullen, Mikael Sundstrom, Kenny McKinstry, Dave Metcalf, Mark Higgin (making his debut as a works driver), David Maslen, Richard Smyth, Frank Meagher, Robbie Head, Richard Burns, Alister McRae, Mike Rimmer and John Price.
