Tudor Webasto Manx Rally 1987 video: Jimmy McRae wins in the R.E.D. Ford Sierra RS Cosworth

The 1987 Manx International Rally was won by Jimmy McRae for the third time and he also claimed his fourth British Open title that year as well.
It wasn't plain sailing for McRae in the R-E-D Sierra though, as he had to fend off a determined Mark Lovell and early leader Phil Collins. Collins dominated the first day until he crashed, his Brooklyn Motorsport Sierra Cosworth, into a bridge the next morning on the Injebreck stage. Lovell and McRae had problems on day one with both crashing on the same corner and having to fight back through the field.
McRae lost 1.30 mins and languished in 16th place, while Lovell dropped 4mins in his BT Radiopaging Sierra Cossie and was down in 66th position. A great battle ensued over the next two days with McRae doing enough to beat Lovell by 43 secs though only after Ford having to employ team-orders on the final day to make sure McRae secured the British Open title. Pentti Airikkala finished third, driving an Opel Kadett GSI, nearly 5 mins behind Lovell.
