M-Sport conducted a R&D test session in Spain last week with the Ford Focus WRC on tarmac
Ford conducted a R&D test with Mikko Hirvonen last week in Spain with a hybrid Focus WRC featuring new and current parts. The test wasn't aimed at any rally in paricular, nor was it the 08 spec Focus due to be homologated for Rally Germany which will feature some minor engine modifications. The test took place from last Wednesday to Friday.
The primary focus was the Pirelli tyres which Ford are struggling a bit with at the minute. Ford are having problems getting heat into them and with the asphalt WRC rounds going to be pivotal in this year's championship Ford want to at least have a chance against Citroen. Ford also had some experimental parts on the car but it isn't clear if these will end up on the Focus at any stage as M-Sport stated the test was purely research and development.
