Wesley Patterson (pictured above on the Rally of the Lakes) driving his usual 2.5 litre Escort won the Loughgall Country Park Rally by 7.3 seconds from last year's winner Camillus Bradley's 2 litre example.
Patterson was fastest on the first four stages to go 11 seconds in front but then Bradley won the final two tests to reduce the deficit. A slight overshoot towards the end of stage 5 was the only real glitch in Patterson's perfect day. Mervyn Wedlock was third a further 17 seconds back in what was an Escort Mk2 filled top twelve, in fact 37 of the 66 starters were all driving 2WD Escorts of some decription.
The rally was well organised by North Armagh Motorcycle & Car Club with all stages running bang on time. Conditions started off ideal, but the third stage was extremely wet and then the weather improved again with the stages drying out quickly although they remained slippery under tree cover. Each of the six tarmac stages were roughly 3 miles in length.
