Loeb set for a possible F1 drive at end of season Abu Dhabi GP

Five-time world rally champion Sebastien Loeb has been sensationally linked to a possible one-off grand prix drive, with the Toro Rosso F1 team, at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on November 1st, according to Motorsport News.

Sources close to the Red Bull backed team have told MN that Loeb will partner Sebastien Buemi for the F1 finale.

Although, Loeb was quick to dampen speculation that arose during last weekend's German Grand Prix, it is understood he will replace Jaime Alguersuari, who is set to take over from Sebastien Bourdais from the next race in Hungary.

BBC F1 commentator Martin Brundle stated to MN about Loeb's possible GP debut:

He was very impressive in the F1 test and he was very impressive at Le Mans. The problem he has got is that there is so little time on a grand prix weekend. But I have learned never to underestimate anyone. He has clearly got an understanding of circuit racing. I would fully expect him to be on the back of the grid but he wouldn't be to far off the pace. Loeb seems to be able to jump into anything and perform well.

If it [Loeb's possible GP debut] was Suzuka, he would struggle, but if it was Abu Dhabi then probably not because everybody would be learning the track.

Citroen World Rally Team boss Olivier Quesnel would be happy for Loeb to race in F1, so long as it is after Rally GB and doesn't interfere with the manufacturer's rallying priorities:

I know how important it is for him to try his hand at different activities as a driver. Should Seb get an opportunity to race in F1, our reaction would not be to prevent that from happening, so long as it would happen after the final round.
