In a recent interview with Eurosport France Sebastien Loeb admitted to being a fan of the Audi Sport quattro S1 but he prefers the WRC cars of today, and also states he isn't nostalgic for rallying in the 70s and 80s.
Loeb commented about rallying in the 70s and 80s during the interview with Eurosport France:
I was not a fan of rallying in the 70s and 80s, because I only truly discovered that period when I began my career in the 90s. I do not know much about the history of rallying in the 70s and 80s as that was a different era.
But there was one car that left no one indifferent. What car? the Group B Audi Sport quattro S1, which was a dream. But today, our cars go much faster than they did during that time and I think our WRC cars are much more pleasant to drive. So I have no nostalgia!"

Doesn’t really suprise me. Loeb is very neat and perfect like a surgeon. He is used to the C4 which is a scalpel, whereas the S1 is more of a chain saw.

I hope hes not being mis qouted… I would like to think that rally today wouldnt be where it is without the sacrfices and hard work of the group b rally drivers and their teams… Bring an authentic Group B Rally car and a newer rally car to a parking lot and see what one gets the most attemtion…
loeb is a great driver no doubt about that. but personally wrc car’s of today are far to tame there too quiet you can’t hear them coming from a quarter of a mile away like the good old group b car’s there not as quick also there’s too much computer technology in modern wrc cars. i mean if you miss a gear change in a modern wrc car the computer corrects it for them(The Driver) what’s that all about. the fact of matter is it should be driver skill at the end of the day not a computer. they are highly paid sportmen who should good allround driver’s (F A C T) personally i would love to see loeb drive audi quattro s1 E2 600Bhp monster to prove how good he realy is without all the computer magic he has in his citroen wrc foot to the floor on any rally track of his choice and do it in the citroen he drive’s in 2010. The S1 would wipe the fhis floor with his citroen. watching modern wrc cars is like watching paint dry and when the Fia change rule’s in 2011 it will become even more boring you regulate rallying more and more why don’t you ask a total stranger on the street corner to drive in wrc rallying in 2011 because that’s the way it’s heading lame tame motorsport your killing the sport get grip fia!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! john todt the man who gave us the great 205 t16 what hell are you playing at!!!!!!!!!!!!!! now the president of the fia. please bring back the golden years of rallying group b forever. you want higher spectator no’s heres your answer
i went on my first lombard rally when i was 4. i remember standing in forests late at night, freezing my ass off. typically by the end of the day the stages were running late. an hour, maybe 2 past the cars expected time and i’m beginning to wonder why dad had brought us to this hell once again. and then, in the distance you would hear the growl of the first grou pb car. you would hear it grunt at every sharp bend, then howl down a straight or two. then, with a birst of light from the dozen spotlights splattered on the front it would burst into life right in front of you. the noise, the bright lights, the flashes of fire from the exhaust as it left you gasping for more…. geesh. how anyone can compare those glorious days to todays passive, media driven, dare i say “poxy” rally cars and rally events… i miss it sooo much. sooo much. rest in peace group b. you’ll be forever missed by those that where there.
Que grandes ratadas que o Loeb ia levar no seu C4′zinho do Walter Röhrl no S1…
We saw Kankkunen coming 8th in Finland in a WRC car after being out of the games for years and having little knowledge of a WRC car. I’d like to see boring surgeon-Loeb doing the same in a GroupB car!! Too easy to say he’s not nostalgic and today’s cars are better. No wonder! ‘Cos it’s much easier!! Put a driver from the past in a WRC car, he/she would definitely do better than a current driver in a GroupB car! Those were the years of true rallying, gruelling and unforgiving, with lots of skills and dangers involved, without all the technology of today, and with the glorious night stages.. No nostalgia he says.. Of course, ‘cos he doesn’t even know -his words- what rallying used to mean!…
I pity poor loeb, he dosen’t even know what it feels like to sit 1 feet above the ground with just a thin metal sheet separating him from ground while raw 600+ horses wail without computer controlled differential and power management. Even a half wit trained monkey can drive a WRC from 2011 onward replacing humans. The WRC so far is being run by drivers who are only computer aided warriors let alone being courageous.
it take guts to sit on a 600+ bhp lawn mower and then drive it around but then Loeb will never know that!!
the group b cars are still alive and well lads, their living in ireland and are mostly disguised as mk2 escorts. quicker than wrc cars of 3 years ago and able to do 150mph, reaching speeds of 138mph in less than a mile and a half!!mental stuff.
as for the potty-mouthing loeb, i dont care what anyone thinks, i know if you put him on a 5hp lawnmower he would beat the socks off any of us on it.
by the way wrc cars ARE faster than group b (cornering speeds are way above the group b cars)
