Sebastien Loeb up to 4th after Day 2 Rallye du Var 2008 as Eric Brunson leads the rally and title rival Dany Snobeck by just 8.8 seconds

At the end of the second day on the Rallye du Var Eric Brunson (Subaru S8 WRC) holds a slender 8.8s lead over title rival Dany Snobeck (307 WRC) with only two stages remaining tomorrow.

Brunson had lost the lead to Snobeck towards the end of the day but retook the lead on the final stage. Whoever finishes ahead of the other will lift the 2008 Championnat de France.

Jean-Sebastien Vigion is third in his 207 S2000 with Sebastien Loeb an incredible fourth in the Citroen C2 S1600. Loeb, who was 6th after day 1, found the going difficult with the front wheel drive machine in the slippy conditions, but was impressive nonetheless as he heads a number of S2000 and WRC machinery.

Loeb commented on his day:

It is good fun.

Unfortunately the weather conditions don't favour us. It is not easy with only two-wheel drive. I made a bad tyre choice for the long stages, but so did many others.

There have been quite a few casualties already with Alex Bengue crashing out on the first stage in his YACCO 307 WRC. Pieter Tsjoen was fighting Brunson for the lead when he crashed his 07 Structo Focus out this morning.

Arnaud Augoyard had been in contention for the French championship in his Peugeot 306 Maxi but he retired today with mechanical problems. BFGoodrich Trophy winner Olivier Marty crashed his Renault Megane out earlier in the day.
