Video clip of the Lancia Delta S4 in action during the 1986 Lombard RAC Rally, where the Martini Racing squad fielded a brace of Group B Deltas for Markku Alen and Mikael Ericsson.
With the threat of being sacked from the team, Ericsson drove an inspired rally, only to crash his Delta S4 during the third leg while leading, and then eventually being forced to retire from the event just two stages from the finish with a blown turbocharger. He did however, do enough to sign a new two year contract with Lancia for the 1987 and '88 seasons.
Alen would finish second on the RAC, which was enough to give him a one point lead in the 1986 World Rally Championship with one round remaining. Though of course, this was pending the outcome of FISA's Executive Committee meeting that December, regarding the controversial disqualification of Peugeot from the Sanremo Rally.
