Fisher Engineering Lakeland Stages Rally 2008 Results: Richard Cathcart celebrates an emphatic win
Richard Cathcart totally dominated the Lakeland stages Rally after taking the lead on the first stage. Cathcart, driving a McKinstry Motorsport Subaru S9 WRC, won the rally by 12s but the gap would have been much bigger as he beat a number of bogey times. He has only driven a WRCar on a handful of occaisions previously and had a very brief test in the S9 prior to the rally.
Sean Devine was 2nd overall to take the lead in the Pacenotes N.I.R.C. as current leader Connor McCloskey retired his Focus with a faulty fuel pump on the fourth stage. Glenn Allen was third in the Corolla WRC and Neil McCance took fourth to win Group N in his Evo.
Frank Kelly won the 2WD battle after Adrian Hetherington slid off on SS6. Emma McKinstry retired her Subaru WRC on SS2 with steering rack problems and Alistair Fisher, who was using Cathal Rogers Evo, stopped on the way to SS1 with turbo problems.
Niall McShea did not start in the Toyota Corolla S2000 as an uprated steering rack didn't arrive from Holland in time. This would have been the first time an S2000 would have appeared in the Northern Ireland Rally Championship.
