Renault F1 driver, for next year, Robert Kubica has confirmed that he will contest the Rallye du Var at the wheel of a Renault Clio R3 Maxi. The rally is the final round of the French championship and takes place 27-29 November.
It is the Pole's second rally foray in two weeks following his participation in Rally Taormina-Messina, an event based in Sicily which Kubica unfortunately failed to complete after crashing into a wall.
"I'm interested in all categories of motorsport and I particularly like rally," Kubica said. "It's a very demanding and spectacular category."
Kubica's goal is to finish the event and enjoy himself, especially after he crashed out early of last weekend's Rally Taormina-Messina in Italy.
"I will approach the event cautiously, without any particular objective," he said. "The roads in the south of France are as nice as they are challenging and I will try to enjoy it as much as I can."
"As the team continues with its preparations for the start of the 2010 Formula One season, we look forward to seeing Robert taking part in the rally behind the wheel of the Clio Renault Sport R3," said Jean-François Caubet, Renault's Managing Director. "Rally is a category which promotes interaction between drivers and spectators and I'm sure Robert will have many fans supporting him on the stages."
Six-time world champion Sebastien Loeb will also be tackling Rallye du Var, with his wife Severine co-driving for him again, but this time they will be in a Citroen C4 WRC instead of the C2 S1600 they used last year.
Meanwhile, Kubica's name appears on the entrylist, in the Clio R3, for this weekend's Ronde Citta dei Mille in Italy.
