Kris Meeke delighted with his performance on the 2008 edition of the ADAC Rallye Deutschland

Kris Meeke was not too disappointed about how his Rally Germany ended and preferred to look at the positives of his performance. Meeke had been the main man in the S1600 category right from shakedown where he was 4s fastest on a 5.7km test.

He then proceeded to carry this dominance into the rally and led by 1m 40s coming into the final day. Then on SS15, the first on Sunday, the power steering pipe burst costing 40s. Then ha lost more time on SS16 as he had to drive that stage with the problem, but he still led the category. It came to a halt though on the penultimate stage, with a crankshaft sensor problem which cost him seven minutes and lost him the victory in the category. A point had been made though, that Meeke can still cut it at the sharp end and keep the young pretenders in check.

Meeke tells the Belfast Telegraph about his German exploits:

Yes, it was a frustrating way for it to end but these things happen and overall I was delighted with my performance.

I took a bit of time to settle into the car on Friday but once we made adjustments to the set up I got comfortable and was fastest on every stage on Saturday to build a very comfortable lead over the best S1600 drivers around at the moment.

If I was chasing a championship I would be more upset and although it would have been nice to return to the WRC with a win I think I still made my point."
