Raimund Baumschlager (Evo 9) won the Austrian Janner Rally in dramatic fashion after Andreas Waldherr retired his VW Polo S2000 on the penultimate stage after dominating the two day event.
Waldherr retired with suspension damage after hitting a rock when in control of the rally and was left completely devasted. Baumschlager, meanwhile, claimes his third victory on the event. Second place went to Hermann Gassner Snr (Evo 9) with his son Hermann Jnr (Evo 9) third.
There was a great battle during the rally between Manfred Stohl and 62 year old Stig Blomqvist. Stohl in the natural gas (CNG) powered Subaru managed to beat the veteran Blomqvist (Evo 9) by just 10s for fourth spot overall.
The rally has a rather illustrious history witnessing the competitive debut of the Audi quattro, in the hands of Franz Wittmann, back in 1981.
