ERC Istanbul Rally 2009 – Final Results: Solowow wins in 207 S2000

100b3262 ERC Istanbul Rally 2009 shakedown results: Michal Solowow fastest

Polish driver Michal Solowow has won the 2009 Istanbul Rally in his Peugeot 207 S2000 after a weekend battle with Luca Betti's similar machine.

Betti had led the event by nearly 4s after the first leg but Solowow got back in front today and with the gap at only 0.1s between Betti to roled his 207 out of the rally on SS13. Solowow was left with a comfortable lead to cruise home and he was fastest on 11 of the 15 stages during the rally.

It wasn’t easy but good at the end.

We collected ten points and it's not bad.

Local Turkish driver Yagiz Avci impressed in his Mitsubishi Evo to take second overall with fellow compatriot Daghan Ünlüdogan, also in an Evo, was third.

ERC runner Corrado Fontana suffered brake and mechanical problems throughout and could only muster seventh at the finish.

This is the first win for Solowow in the European championship and he now leads the series after two rounds.
