Ford's Mikko Hirvonen has won the 2009 Acropolis Rally of Greece and closes the gap in the WRC to 7 points behind leader Sebastien Loeb.
Citroen Junior Team's Sebastien Ogier claimed his best WRC finish in second which will help in his quest to complete the rest of the season.
Winner Mikko Hirvonen said:
It really did look very difficult at the start but it worked out okay - a perfect weekend! It’s been a clever drive with no mistakes and no punctures. We thought before this event that if you get through without any problems you’ll be okay. It’s great for the team. Now we’re back in the game again - the timing couldn’t have been better!
Jari-Matti Latvala pulled the result of the weekend to help Ford gain vital manufacturers' points with a maximum haul. After going off on day one he came from 11th position yesterday to finish an excellent 3rd O/A.
The Acropolis result is Ford's 100th consecutive points finish in the WRC.
