Guy Wilks is revelling in the challenge of some of Britain´s best rally stages, revived after a 20-year layoff for this inaugural IRC event in Britain. "I think it’s nice to be rallying outside south Wales," he added.
Double British championship winner Wilks will compete in a Skoda UK-entered Fabia S2000 this weekend. After taking three wins and forcing the IRC title battle to the penultimate round in the hands of Jan Kopecky, the Fabia has given Wilks reason to be confident.
Yet the Englishman claims that the rally itself is just as exciting as his new car. "Obviously we haven’t done these stages before but it’s clear that they’re of a very high quality and the rally has its own character," he said. "It’s almost a mini Finland!
"The organisation team here has had to contend with a lot – not least the weather – but this event has a lot of strengths and it’s very confidence-inspiring how it’s come together."
With heavy rain predicted to last until morning, the prospect of a rough, tough RACMSA Rally of Scotland is on the cards - but Wilks insists that he wouldn't have it any other way. "It’s great to be competing in Britain," he said.
"I think it’s nice to be rallying outside south Wales. The team should be recognised for putting on such a good event and doing a great job. The IRC is a great championship and this event is going to be a credit to them."
