Marcus Gronholm tested the Subaru Impreza S14 WRC for the first time at a secret test in Wales the other week, according to Autosport magazine. Norwegian Andreas Mikkelsen drove the car on the same day.

Gronholm didn't comment on the test but did say that he would not have retired at the end of 2007 if the WRC had been reduced to 12 rallies this year.

Subaru managing director Richard Taylor declined to comment on Gronholm's test to Autosport, but said he was pleased with Mikkelsen:

He seemed to enjoy himself. Now we need to see what can be found for the future. We have said we would like this sorting out very quickly after Rally Japan - there's a third seat in the works team if the deal is right."

Meanwhile, Gronholm spoke to WRR during Rally Japan about rumours linking him with a full-time return to the 2009. He said he would not be coming back for a full season next year and wanted to clear up any speculation that he was considering a full-time return.
