Gareth MacHale plans to contest selected events in the Intercontinental Rally Challenge in '09, driving the Motor Sport Developments prepared Opel Corsa Super 2000, according to Motorsport News.

He has been encouraged by the performance of the car at a recent test and this influenced his decision to compete on some rounds of the IRC next year. He has yet to finalise which rallies he will take part in.

MacHale commented to MN:

It seems perfect but we still have work to do with the set-up.

Exactly how many rounds I do hasn't been decided yet, as that will depend on budget. I'm not going to be doing Rallye Monte Carlo, but it's getting experience and finding the funding for a full WRC season in 2010 that I'm focusing on."

MacHale has entered Rally Ireland in his regular Ford Focus RS WRC 06 and will be co-driven by Brian Murphy.
