Ford test for Rally Germany 2008, Hirvonen, Mikkelsen and Duval
Ford have been testing all week in Germany and following on from Latvala's test on Tuesday and Wednesday it was the turn of Mikko Hirvonen. It was reported he suffered some mechanical trouble during one of his runs, but nothing too serious. Mikkelsen tested his new 07 on Friday while Duval was out on Saturday morning. Gig Galli and Mathew Wilson will be out on Sunday for their session.
The two official drivers had to make do with testing the 08 car without the new aero and cooling mods, so they will only be able to assess this at the brief shakedown. Duval had to use the same 08 test car, as his 07 that he will use on the rally hadn't arrived yet.
Duval's comments following his test:
It understeers too much. It was necessary time so that improves. I have a style very different from the Finns on asphalt. Me, I use much the braking of the left foot, which is not their case. After having modified the differential, it was a little better. In any case, that pleases to me to see Christian Loriaux here. I feel that it wants that its car gains on asphalt! If I am on the podium, I could be content. I was very astonished by the level of C4 in Finland. If they carried out same progress on asphalt… I prefer that time remains beautiful the next week. If it rains, I fear that one tastes…”
The 2008-version of the Focus RS WRC includes front style changes as well as engine improvements. Style changes to the grill area reflect the looks of the recently-previewed Focus RS road car. A new turbo and crankshaft will increase the range of power available.
