The accident happened at the end of a long straight where Cronin felt he braked a fraction too late in the fog. Damage to the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9 was minimal but unfortunately his rally was over. Ironically the Cork driver had set fastest time on the first stage. He did however, return for the Sunday run where he set a number of competitive times.
