The Junior Rally team of Colin R Smith (22, Driver) and Craig Chapman (25, Co Driver) are well underway with their preparations for their 4 rally programme in the 2010 Intercontinental Rally Challenge (IRC) 2wd Cup. The first competitive outing in 2010 for the Euro Rallye / Andrew Wood Motorsport Honda Civic Type R is the Arnold Clark Snowman Rally on the 20th of February.
The Inverness event will allow the team to gain more experience of the new car before their IRC season starts in June on the Rally Sardegna. Colin and Craig will complete a 2 day test prior to the Snowman Rally to further their mileage and test some new parts.
Oldmeldrum Project Engineer Smith commented “The Snowman will allow us to get some more vital experience of the new car on stages which are familiar to us”.
The teams 2010 plans follow their fantastic performance on the inaugural Rally of Scotland last year, finishing 13th overall and 2nd IRC 2wd car.
EuroRallye team principal Iain Shirlaw commented “The Snowman Rally will provide the chance for Colin and Craig to learn the Honda’s potential on a familiar event without the pressure of an International rally”
Iain added “Colin and Craig have shown themselves to be young competitors with not only the talent and ambition to succeed but an understanding of the dedication required to go out and fight for sponsorship”.
Since the Junior team revealed plans back in December to compete in 4 rounds of the IRC in 2010, interest in their successes have gained a huge amount of momentum from both Scotland and overseas.
Co Driver Chapman added “Since we decided to do the 4 IRC rounds this year the level of interest in our team has been phenomenal. We hope to gain further support and do Scotland proud this year in representing ourselves and our supporters at the highest level”.
