Kris Meeke was recommended by Citroen Sport for the drive in the Citroen Xsara WRC on the Bettega Memorial Rallysprint, as reported by the Belfast Telegraph.
Meeke will be using Felice Re's Scuderia Errepi Racing S.r.l. prepared Xsara in the event, which takes place on the 13-14th December at the Bologna Motor Show.
Meeke explained how the drive came about to the Belfast Telegraph:
I was taken completely by surprise. One of the organisers of the Bologna Motor Show rang to ask if I could come out and drive a Citroen Xsara WRC car in the rallysprint. She said I must have good connections with Citroen because they had recommended me.
I still have good relations with Citroen Sport and have been doing some testing for them with their C2-R2, but I didn’t expect them to put my name forward for something like this.
It is the Xsara which was used by Felice Re to win the Italian tarmac championship this year and will be run for me by the Errepi Racing team. I've driven Xsaras quite a few times in testing and it has always been an ambition to compete in one.”
