CIR Costa Smeralda Rally 2008 Results: Paolo Andreucci wins as Luca Rossetti maintains his championship lead
Paolo Andreucci won the latest CIR Italian rally championship round the Costa Smeralda Rally at the weekend in his Evo 9.
Andreucci opened up a 34s lead at the end of the first day ahead of his championship rival Luca Rossetti. Uwe Nittel was third overnight in front of Andrea Navarra in the Abarth Punto. Luca Cantamessa suffered a puncture which he would never recover from in his Evo 9 and eventually finished the rally tenth o/a.
Nittel went off twice on SS6 and was forced to withdraw. Travaglia hit a stone on SS3 and retired with Piero Longhi retiring on the same stage. Aghini crashed out on SS5 and Navarra had a puncture on SS7 whilst lying third and he dropped back to finish fourth o/a.
Andreucci took four fastest stage times on Saturday to seal his win but Rossetti, in his Peugeot Racing Lions 207 S2000, is still in command of the championship with two rounds remaining.
