Richard Cathcart from Enniskillen and his navigator Martin Brady from Navan competed on the Scottish Rally this weekend in the forests of the Dumfries and Galloway hills.
A last minute decision to put in a late entry and saw them start the rally at number 13, an unlucky number of course for those superstitions, however the pair rallied on and settled themselves in cautiously to stage 1. Richard purchased a group N Impreza direct from Subaru works team Prodrive over the winter break but this was his first time actually using the car in competition. After bedding in on the first stage with a 5th fastest time it was into the short spectator stage at just under one mile and here Richard set fastest time.
Stage 3 Richard again went fastest by 7 seconds from Jock Armstrong & Kirsty Riddick to lead the rally by 8 seconds. However the unlucky twist was to come just 0.3miles from the end of ss4 when something broke without warning in the transmission and left Richard & Martin stranded without drive and retiring from a healthy lead of the rally.
Disapointed but undeterred Richard & Martin returned home from Scotland to take stock and repair the Impreza and plan for a return to the rally stages in the near future.
