BLACK SEEKING GLORY IN SUNSEEKER

This weekend see's 20 year old Callum Black and the Millers Oils 586 Team kick start their 2012 British Rally Championship campaign at Rallye Sunseeker. The first round sees the crews tackle 66 stage miles on gravel in and around Poole and Bournemouth.

The International series, is truly "International" - with competitors coming from as far as America and Finland. Backed again by Millers Oils, Black can create history by becoming the youngest ever winner of the series, currently held by former World Champion Richard Burns - Aged 22, in 1993.

Callum comments:

"2012 is going to be a massive season for me, I want to create history and become the youngest ever British Rally Champion. I'm not kidding myself though, I will have to be right on my game if I'm going to achieve that. There are some hugely talented drivers in this years 2012 BRC, with some fantastic cars. I think we need to hit the ground running and continue improving like we did in 2011. Having a new co-driver and adapting to the changes with the car will be challenging, but I have confidence in both and we are really looking forward to the year as a team."

Starting with a ceremonial start on Friday night at Poole harbour, the stages get under way around 9am on Saturday morning.

Following a lengthily winter break with limited action and eager to get back in the hot seat, Callum comments:

"We've made some significant set up changes over the winter break which I really hope will allow us to fight for fastest stage times. We haven't had much chance to test the car as we've been waiting on parts and in truth I've been snowed under with university work! We had a good run on the Wyedean Rally, on snow tyres as Course car which would have put us 2nd Overall which should set us up nicely for the rally."

Finally, this year Callum will be accompanied by a new co-driver, 22 year old Chris Williams. Both Callum's and Chris's career paths have followed the same routes, which have led them to competing in the BRC.

Co-Driver Chris Williams commented:

"When Callum approached me about this year it didn’t take me too long to make the decision and say yes."

"We’ve been rallying against one another since the end of 2008 and our careers have followed the exact same path more or less over the last four years so we have become quite good friends. Obviously, it will take time for the partnership to gel fully in the car, but having completed a recent test session together I think we’re well on the way to making things work."

“I have no doubt that we can go to the first round with a belief and confidence that we’re in a position to challenge for the overall victory. We’re certainly going to try!” ".
