Audi quattro Group 4 1981 video

This video, uploaded by Marvdogger, traces the early competition days of the Audi quattro Group 4 model beginning with footage of Franz Wittmann (pictured) winning  the 1981 Janner Rallye by over 20 minutes on the car's debut.

From then on we see the quattro contesting the 1981 WRC featuring clips of the Monte, Swedish, 1000 Lakes and Sanremo rallies. Hannu Mikkola won on the car's second WRC outing on the Swedish Rally that year, but 1981 the car was very much under development and suffered reliability issues throughout, though the four wheel drive revolution had begun.

Audi scored three WRC victories that year with the most famous one recorded by Michele Mouton on the San Remo.
