Toshi Arai wins the Rally Hokkaido 2008 in Japan which is a round of the APRC

Posted by Scott Coursey 14 July, 2008

Toshi Arai dominated the 2008 Rally Hokkaido with a start to finish victory. Conditions on the first day were very wet and the opening two stages were cancelled as a result. The rally was round 3 in the APRC.

The final day was dry and saw a titanic battle between the Asia Pacific Rally Championship contenders (Arai isn't an entrant). Katsu Taguchi was top, in second o/a, after a last stage shoot-out with Hiroshi Yanagisawa who was ahead but was beaten by Taguchi by just 2.3s and was one of the closest finishes in APRC history. Championship leader Cody Crocker had a bit of a disasterous rally to finish 5th o/a and 4th of the APRC runners just behind  Dean Herridge who he was trying to catch on the final day.

Retirements included Scott Pedder, and Kamada who crashed heavily
