Urmo Aava has stated to Estonian news website Postimees that Suzuki are currently building an S2000 car and will probably return to the WRC in 2011. He also added that he might have an opportunity to test and compete in the machine next year.
Aava has recently been testing for the Suzuki WRT in Sardinia where he was assisting JWRC drivers with the set-up etc of the Suzuki Swift S1600. He also states that he hasn't given up hope of contesting some WRC events this year, though of course this is dependent on budget.
Aava comments about the Suzuki S2000 project to postimees.ee:
I have a good relationship with the Suzuki team from driving for them in the JWRC. I am hoping to get to test their S2000 car sometime in the next year and maybe I can do some rallies with them at the end of 2010 season.
They (Suzuki WRT) are currently bulding an S2000 car but I can't say anymore. For the 2011 season they will probably do a full WRC programme.
Of course I have to bring my own "money" to this project but if we compare this cost to the current amount of money required (for a Stobart or Citroen deal) then it's much cheaper.
There has been no official announcement from Suzuki about an S2000 project since they withdrew from the WRC in December last year.
Suzuki had stated in the past that their goal was to develop an S2000 machine based on the SX4 WRC and that they might have taken a sabbatical from the WRC to do this, though those comments were made before the official withdrawal.
